Can't say I was there, but I think if these Riviera shows were seen as nothing more than a cynical cash-grab no one would go. They seem to be pretty popular....I myself would love to go, given the time, money, what-have-you, we'll see.
Typical standard Furthur fare, not into the JK-as-Jerry numbers without anything new added to the mix, but man, the interplay on Unbroken Chain > Viola > Unbroken Chain is something to behold - Joe in particular really swings it.

Subject: The tempo
I've been listening to these shows for a month and they have grown with complexity and power each time. All 4 nights, but the Hell in a Bucket is a particularly good example of non-frenzied intensity--it's not slammin arena-rock--it's deep psychedelia played at the highest level. For those who complained from the first that Bob's tempo is just too slow (and frankly, that includes me too), the pace of this Bucket is exactly what he's been trying to get the band to do: that sort of 1977 easy pace, filled with space for tension and interplay between the musicians, and they deliver at full power. The Scarlet also does that, as do many other songs during all 4 nights. I still can't really groove on Ratdog's tempo most of the time, but this Furthur statement is solid gold. As for the complaints about $, c'mon. This was a kickoff for the band in winter. Despite the resort bs, the Yucatan is still one of the most magic spots in this hemisphere and even though I couldn't afford it, a great idea. I just wouldn't have hung out much at the actual resort--I would have rented a car and headed for a hidden cenote with my posse.

These shows, while I agree, not played for the common fans who supported the band for years, are wonderful to tune into.
Glad for all the folks who went, and the tapers. I play a bit of guitar, and this stuff ain't easy to play at the tempo, the frequency and the age they are at.
Love them, hope they come back together and honor San Francisco with a New Year's Bash in 2014...
Keep on Truckin everyone! No bashing please.

This was a grate nite. Shoulda known, Bobby came out with the Telecaster, that we would get the cowboy songs, and they were super. 40 years listening to this music, this is now my favorite Me & My Uncle.

Its a shame for people like u who try to ruin a grate thing. First of all Bobby was spot on from the first notes of stranger if u were there u might of scene it, Bobby out played everyone the whole week honestly!! As far as a money grab wtf u talking about DSO in Jamaica is 1000 bucks more bro so.... all bands do this now. Music was a 5 out of 5 the hotel was a 3 but who cares. Youre probalby talking throughout the show saying how it used to be when Jerry was alive. Magical week glad i was there!!!

Subject: Thank You For Setting The Music Free
Furthur really showed their true colors by scheduling these 4 "farewell tour" concerts in Mexico. A true "take the money and run" scheme. Fans were herded into an unfinished venue with terrible acoustics to hear musicians who have seemingly grown out-of-love with each other after years of Playing In The Band.
That said, the music over the 4 days was reasonably good to even great at times. There was evidence of some inspired playing on Phil's part, typically dragging Bobby along for the ride. Jeff was as always a wild man and John did a great job when he was allowed to turn it up.
A HUGE THANK YOU to the tapers for setting the music free. You would think that the band would have enabled a Pay-Per-View for fans unable to attend this cash-grab - but for reasons unclear there was no official video or music stream. So it was left to the tapers and streamers who did what they could to share the music.
